So I'm still editing Indian Warrior Ghost. My guess I will have it finished some time in February 2013.

What's New??

Well I have a few things I would like to get going again. One is the QHR Reports. I have some new actors interested in making some episodes. Also You Can't Do That on Youtube is going to make another come back with some new episodes. The big thing there is the studio space and raising the $15,000 to pay the rent. There has to be some financially stable person  out there that would be willing to lend us studio space or donate the cash or sponsor the program.

Anyways there is also the next feature film project starring Joshua Holmes.

Blogspot, failing behind

Hey,  sorry for not posting any thing for a while but I have been completely swamped with working on IWG. I will be posting some stuff here soon.

Gas Station or no Gas Station

So I have been looking for an old gas bar in the middle of now where for the film. There is one way over in Grand Valley but it would be too far to drag everyone from the main filming location. What I need is one closer to Elora. There is an old one that require gas pumps so I was going to build a set of fake pumps but now I have found a second location and it has pumps already. we just need to ask the owners so we know which way we are going to go. Oh the other option is to cut the scenes all together.

Production News!

Hey everyone. We are still fundraising. We still need to reach our goal of $5,000, Please swing by the website and have a look. http://sterlingproductions.ca/IWG/Fundraising.html

Also I haven't had any luck selling the plywood canoe so I'm going to quickly build a second one and make it into a catamaran or pontoon boat for a filming plate form. It should make a reasonably stable floating platform that won't flip over with all my camera equipment on it. I will need one or two volunteers to help paddle as i film.

Thanks everyone for all their support with this project.

Canoe carrying trailer build

So my plan was to take pics as I go but my hands get really dirty when working with old steel. I'm really not interested in getting my still camera covered in dirt. Any ways here are a few pictures from yesterday.

I needed to make a new hitch bar for the trailer. the old one in the picture is too short for carrying canoes. The canoes would hit the tow vehicle.

 I removed it.

I purchased some new steel and blots to make the new one. Drilling the holes in 3/16 steel is not an easy task with a corded hand drill. But I managed. I then bolted it in place.

I then cut the ends of my wooden canoe rack I built way back in May and painted it a seven's rusty brown color that I remember everyone painting their fences with. In the film the Scout Leader in 1982 would still have 50's to 70's influences.

I will be repainting all the dark blue today and the black on the top. Also need to wire wheel all the new steel and then paint it black. Then it's ready for it's road test. More pics to come :)

The Tents of IWG

I started looking over the tents I have for the film. I have two brown, two green, one blue and red and one orange. All of them are four person so they will work good for filming in. I also have a red two man tent for Scout Leader Dave's tent.

I was just outside organizing the tents to make sure they have all there parts. There is nothing like getting out on location and we're missing a part.

Filming soon!

I have the script 99% complete. There is a few things to tweak yet but I can start filming and so we shall. Starting on July 24! We are short of our goal but people can still make donations right up until we finish editing the film. I had to barrow some money for friends and family to keep on schedule so any donation even a $1 will help. We have many great perks for your donation so please stop into the website and have a look. http://www.sterlingproductions.ca/iwg.html

IWG production update

So the script is almost 100% complete. I have a few small rewrites then it's finished. i will be handing copies out to the actor soon as well as a filming schedule.

I have my old website back up again. there is allot of missing pages and pics. I can't find all the peaces for it because my main computer crashed months ago and it's still not fixed so i'm searching out back up files.

Any ways I may just build a whole new website from scratch.

thanks for checking out my blog here

Finaly posted the pics of the IWG Canoes

Plywood Canoe a Problem?

So Josh and his friend did some more sea trials for me. They determined that my plywood Canoe is a bit too narrow to be stable for youth with limited Canoeing Skills. I have put that prototype up for sale and I will try to build IWG II. This time it will be 36" wide in the middle. This should solve the problem. After all if the actors are flipping the Canoe every 2 minutes x 8 canoes it will take weeks to film one scene. With a wider most stable less speed version we will get all the footage we need quickly. I will also look into buying old canoes that are for sale. There seems to be many for sale rights now priced about $250. each

Sea testing the Canoe

So I finally got to try the Canoe out in the river. It seams to be just fine. I think I'll line up a few of our actors to give the Canoe a good workout and see what they think. Then I will make the other 7. What I may do is build another one that's a bit wider in the middle. Something closer to 36" rather than 24". It may make it a bit more stable and easier to use for the actors.

Wow! We got allot of donations in the last week or so. There are some really great people out there and I think they will be very pleased with the final production when it's finished. I taped an other promo video with Eric, Josh and Michael last Wednesday. I will be posting it on Wednesday May 9, 2012. I also have in the works a promo video with Jarek and Daimen on Tuesday next week. Keep up the great work everyone!

GoPro Camera?

I'm only $60 away from being able to buy a Go Pro Camera for all the actions shots in the IWG film. Please purchase some DVDs or make a donation so we can purchase the much needed camera for the film. I'm going to use my PD170 for the rest of the shoot but it doesn't like getting wet. http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero-naked-camera/

Lets Talk Vintage Watches for IWG

So back in the day 1982 kids were still going crazy for Casio Digital watches. I need to find about 24 more that fit kids age 10 to 16. They don't need to work so they can be found for cheap, if not free from old junk draws in your house or maybe at your Grandparents. Also flee markets, garage sales, second hand shops, where ever. If you find one please feel free to mail it to me.

I purchased the one above on ebay for $20 and free shipping. I needed one good one so I could record the sounds for the film sound track. It was the best deal I could find. ebay buy it now link

One that I would really like to get is one that is also a calculator. Like the one in the picture on the right. Again it doesn't need to work because I looked them up and they run from $39.95 and up.

We can't use the black plastic one because they weren't popular until about 1985 I think it was. Silver or gold are best.

Canoe Carrying Trailer

So I have this old trailer that was given to me or donated for production use. I'm going to turn it into a Canoe Carrier that holds 8 Canoes for the IWG film. Also I can reuse it for future productions.

The first thing I'm going to do is pressure wash it and inspect it's structure to make sure it's sound. Then I will repair anything that needs repairing. I will look over the wiring and lights. Then I will line the bottom with 5/8 plywood and build a 2x4 tree to hold all the Canoes.

I will also build a plywood lid that opens from each side so I can store all the paddles and life jackets. It will be like a ready to go Canoeing tool box on wheels. I will post more pics and info as I build it over the next few weeks.

Looking for lights

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a good deal on some Mole-Richardson 200w film lamps. They look like the one in the picture. I'm hoping to find them for under $50 each or maybe someone has a few lying around not do anything and would be willing to lend them to us for the film.

I've got something to blog about!

Hey there, I got a good deal on five back packs for the film. I drove allover Southerner Ontario to find them. I checked all the second hand shops I could find and nothing for about 4 months. Then two days ago I walked into one shop and I had the feeling that they had two or more. I found one on the show room floor and couldn't find the other. I asked the clerk at the counter and she said to come back another day because one may show up.

I felt like she was holding out on me so I took a look around outside where people drop stuff off and there it was. A really nice orange one. I took a closer look and there was four just sitting. I asked how much they wanted for them and they wouldn't say.

"They need to be priced first" and that I "would have to come back on Saturday."

Well I just about fell over. I don't want to come back on Saturday, they may be sold by then. I went back at 6pm and the new shift workers were in and they sold them to me on the spot.

IWG Life Jackets Info.

I was talking with some of the parents of the actor s a while back about life jackets for their kids for the film. I did some research and Canadian has a good deal on Keep a Float Blue and Yellow 3 belts for $18.99. 3 belts is a bit too new looking for 1982 but the colors will work.   079-1900-6    CT Web page

I have a pic here of a Yellow Keep a Float that I got at Canadian Tier for  $17.99 I like it because it has the zipper in the front. It also looks more 1982.

I have a picture here of a Buoy O Boy 1985 life jacket to compare the look. One thing we could do is paint the 3rd belt on the new ones the same color as the jacket so it doesn't stand out so much on camera.

I also have a pic of a Orange and yellow one form Zellers for $29.95.

There is also a Key Hole type life jacket that is really 1980's looking.. This style never seams to age. It's $19.99 at Canadian Tire and I found them on ebay for as low as $8.99.

My website is down

My SterlingProductions.ca website is down and so I will be redirecting to my back up site. It will be back up in about 24 hrs. My email is also down so please use my sterlingjohnston@hotmail.com to contact me.

UPDATE April 17, 2012: The website redirect is working and I have repaired the PayPal buttons on it so everything works now. I am looking for a new web site hosting company for the old site. The old hosting company just charges to much, I do have the money to cover the cost and so I need to find something cheaper. Hopefully it will be back up soon.

Update April 10 2012

So the canoe is almost finished. Just need to look into putting some air chambers in it. Once the weather warms up I will sea test it to make sure it works well before making the next 5. I have a 16 foot that I'm going to barrow from some people up north of here for the Scout leaders Canoe.

I have also been very busy setting up the sets for YCDTOYT. We are going to tape some new episodes this weekend.

Get your picture in the film!

There is going to be a missing persons board in the film and I'm going to post pictures of people that have gone missing in the woods were the scouts are going to be camping.
Just send us your picture, head and shoulders, and we will make it into a missing person poster t post in the scene. You should dress in 1982 or older clothing for your picture.
Also you could send your old class photo from 1982 if you want.
I was going to use this idea as a fund raiser, you know make a donation of $5 and we will put you in the film but I think I will do it for free because its more fun.

I got the idea from Shannon’s banner idea. I will post it when I find it. I know I downloaded a copy and it was on facebook but for now it's lost. Found it :)  I have posted a copy of CathyDirector's poster.

IWG Canoe Update

So a few days ago I added the wood strips to the top edge of the Canoe. I cut a 16 foot 2x4 down to 3/4 inch strips then glued one on each side of the top edge. The clamps in the picture held them in place until the glue dried.

Today was a really nice day so I took the Canoe outside to sand it down and get it ready for paint.

Once I was finished sanding I painted the outside of the Canoe green. I'm going to paint the trim white and give it a name in the next few days. Building the canoe was easy compared to picking a name to give it. Hummm It has to match the film and the year 1982 and it would have been giving its name by the Scout that built it.

Quick Update

So I have been very ill for the past few weeks. I think I'm finally getting better. I will be working on the Canoe later today. We have added a few new cast members to the website. I have been looking into using a camp ground for our filming location and the cost is huge. $2,500 for all the actors and parents for the 10 days needed,. I'm hoping everyone can cover their own food requirements and I can focus on the film.

I did find a location we could use for free but its only accessible by canoe and we need. We may be able to park the camping trailers and cars down stream on a dead end street but I think I would need to get a permit to do so.

Oh well I will keep updating the blog here. Bye for now

The Cast Grows Larger.

Yesterday I spent the day in Toronto auditioning  actors to be in the film. We now have 12 cast members that can't wait until August 13 2012 to start filming.  I will be in Toronto March 30th to audition some more actors.

I will be taping some You Can't Do that On YouTube skits this week with Piper and Cressy. Harold Homeier of the USA has donated another $75 in sponsorship money to the show so we are well on the way to taping two YCDTOYT episodes the first weekend of April.

Hopefully we can light a fire under the fund raising for the Indian Warrior Ghost production. The budget looks like we will need around $5,000 to make the film.  Please have a look at our cast so far. I just updated the webpage. http://www.sterlingproductions.ca/iwgcast.html

CathyDirector made a Promo film trailer for IWG

This is a cool film trailer that Cathy Director edited from from film I sent here. I directed it. There is a few small changes to be made. They are clips from the QHR Report Un-dead Warrior episode we made a few years ago and clips from The Great Scout Adventure. So this is a possible production design fro the film but not the final one.

I hope this generates some interest in helping us get the film made. We need to collect as many donations as we can as fast as we can. please visit the website for more info on donating and the perk we offer. http://www.sterlingproductions.ca/iwgfund.html

Plywood Canoe Update

So I added a ridge beam down the bottom of the Canoe so it doesn't drift as much on the open water and it will also help keep the Canoe going in a straight line when paddling.
Then I cut out strips of Fiberglass like I did for the inside and now I'm doing the outside edges. This is what holds the canoe together.
Then I put the fiberglass resin on. So far I have used 3 liters and I need to buy one more to finish the canoe. total cost of the fiber glass will be $150. To make the other five Canoes I need for the film I will buy a 5 gallon can of resin because it only costs $252.95. Then the fiber glass mat will be another $200. The cost sure adds up in a hurry.

I also have a few more Canoes lined up that I can barrow for the film. I just need to round up the fuel to go get them and take them back.

Casting Call still going on

Hey everyone. I'm still doing the casting call for The Indian Warrior Ghost. We have had a great turn out of young actors wanting to be in the film. So rather than spend a huge amount of money renting an audition space in Toronto or driving around to meet everyone we are doing self-taping audition for the first round.

So casting call for boys 10 to 14 years old. We do make exception and take younger or older if they really want to act in a film. Just sent us a photo and some background info. name, age, interests, skills and if you can swim.

A good example of an actor picture is on the left of Sam Kilpatrick.

Self-tape addition is very simply.

Part 1:  just ask your child to stand in front of a camera ( home video, web cam or cell phone) and state their name, age and why they would like to be an actor.

Part 2: I have attached a page from a film script. Please memorize it and say the lines. The actor can try doing both parts as two different people or someone off camera can read the other lines to them.

The director is looking for level of imagination and how true the lines sound. Do I believe this person?

We can also do in-person auditions if you like. You just have to set up a time with me. I will be in Torornto area March 10 and March 30.

I will be posting more actors names and pictures on my website as soon.

And So the Work Continues

So now I was working on the fiberglass seams on the inside of the Canoe. I cut the fiberglass matt into 4 inch strips and sat them inside.

I then titled the canoe up to one side and coated it with fiberglass reason.

My friend Dale says to remind you to always wear a mask when working with Fiberglass because it's not so good for your health.

When it dried I did the other side.
I also fiber-glassed the both ends on the inside.

Then after it dries I flipped it over and cut the zip ties off with a wood chisel. Then sanded the outside edges round to get it ready for the next step.

Work continues on the Plywood Canoe for my feature film

So once the fiber glass dried I could then start to set up the sides. i lined ten up and placed s 1 x 3 in the middle to hold up the sides and make the right width for the center.

I then bent the ends in and placed two more smaller pieces of wood in to help keep the shape.

I tied the ends together with three zip ties. It worked really well. I just had to drill three holes in the ends to put the ties threw.

I then flipped the Canoe over and lined up the bottom of the Canoe. I used a air powered finishing nail gun to nail the bottom down.

My next blog posting will cover how I fiber glassed  the seams inside the Canoe.
